Oven-Baked Sweet and Sour Chicken Delight

Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Season the chicken pieces with salt and pepper.
Dredge the chicken pieces in cornstarch, then dip them in the beaten eggs.
Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the chicken pieces in batches, then transfer to the prepared baking dish.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the sugar, vinegar, ketchup, soy sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder until smooth.
Pour the sauce over the chicken in the baking dish, making sure all pieces are coated.
Bake in the preheated oven for 60 minutes, turning the chicken pieces every 15 minutes to ensure they are evenly coated with the sauce.
Serve hot, garnished with green onions and sesame seeds if desired.
