Homemade Bread Pudding

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
In a container, mix the milk, eggs, sugar and vanilla essence.
Cut the bread into small pieces and add it to the milk and egg mixture. Let it rest for 15 minutes so that the bread absorbs the liquid well.
If desired, add raisins to the mixture.
In a pudding mold, pour the caramel and distribute it evenly over the bottom.
Pour the bread and milk mixture over the caramel in the mold.
Place the mold on a baking tray with hot water (bain-marie).
Bake for about 1 hour, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Let cool to room temperature and then refrigerate for at least 2 hours before unmolding and serving.
