Got this ‘Poor Man’s Steak’ recipe from an Amish friend. Delicious! Doesn’t feel like I’m skimping.

For the Poor Man’s Steak:
1. In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, bread crumbs, salt, pepper, milk, onion, and beaten egg until well combined.
2. Press the mixture into a greased loaf pan or shape into a rectangle on a greased baking sheet.
3. Refrigerate for at least 8 hours or overnight to firm up.
4. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
5. Slice the chilled meat mixture into half-inch thick steaks.
6. Place the steaks on a greased baking sheet and bake for 25 minutes.
For the Gravy:
7. In a saucepan, whisk together beef broth and flour over medium heat until it thickens. Season with salt and pepper.
For the Mashed Potatoes:
8. Boil the potatoes with the minced garlic until tender, about 20 minutes.
9. Drain the potatoes and mash with milk, butter, salt, and pepper until smooth.
To Serve:
10. Pour gravy over the baked steaks and serve with the mashed potatoes.
For a complete meal, add your choice of vegetables or a side salad.

Variations & Tips
Feel free to get creative with the Poor Man’s Steak by adding different spices such as smoked paprika or garlic powder to the meat mixture for more flavor. For a lighter version, you can substitute ground turkey for the beef. As for the mashed potatoes, adding a bit of grated Parmesan or swapping in some of the butter with cream cheese can make them even more luscious!
