Crockpot French Onion Soup


Directions:

In a large skillet, melt butter with olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions, salt, and sugar. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are caramelized, about 25-30 minutes.
Transfer the caramelized onions to a crockpot. Add garlic, beef broth, white wine, bay leaves, and thyme. Stir to combine.
Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours.
Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove the bay leaves before serving.
To serve, ladle the soup into oven-safe bowls. Top each with a slice of toasted baguette and a generous amount of shredded Gruyère cheese.
Place the bowls under a broiler until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Serve immediately.
